Pick the vendor for the job, not for the keynote. The APIs look the same from a distance. The bills and the failure modes do not.
OpenAI is still the default when you need the most examples online and the most wrappers. That matters if your team will search Stack Overflow before they read a doc.
Anthropic is the one people reach for when the task is long and fussy: a 200 page PDF, a code review that has to say no, a policy that cannot hallucinate a clause. You pay for that patience.
Google is the path of least resistance if the rest of the stack is already GCP and you want one bill. Multimodal is not a tie-breaker by itself. Ops is.
There is no winner for “AI”. There is a winner for this week’s ticket. Revisit the choice when the ticket type changes.
